As its title suggests, 50,001 Best Baby Names contains information for over 50,000 baby names. While the sheer volume of names is impressive, the actual content of the book is not.
In selecting a baby naming book it may be tempting just to get the book that lists the most names. However, as this book shows, more is not always better. At a certain point, the "names" in this book start to venture into the world of make believe. It seems a good number were tossed in just to get over the 50k mark.
Furthermore, many of the definitions seem inconsistent. For example, ethinic variations on names have different meanings listed. All these names should have the same meaning since they come from the same root. Obvious mixups like these made me wonder what other mistakes I wasn't catching.
All in all, Top 100 Baby Names does not recommend this book. Look for a book that focuses more on quality and less on quantity.
